Fayetteville woman charged in death of moped driver

Many drivers seek relief from the ever-increasing cost of gasoline by turning to energy efficient modes of transportation such as mopeds. The increase of mopeds on the roads requires drivers of other vehicles to demonstrate even more diligence and to make an attempt to safely share the road. Unfortunately, an accident in North Carolina demonstrates the need for such caution after a Fayetteville woman was charged in the death of a moped driver.

The accident occurred in late July. A 33-year-old female was traveling west. When she attempted to make a left turn, she allegedly turned into the path of a 50-year-old man on a moped. The moped driver was unable to stop in time and crashed into the right side of the vehicle.

The moped driver was transported to an area hospital. Unfortunately, he later died from his injuries. Since then, the female driver has been charged with death by motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, along with other charges.

The unexpected loss of a loved one is difficult for families to cope with. Many families are not prepared for the financial implications of such an event. This man's family will likely face medical bills and funeral costs as well as the loss of his income. In order to provide relief for the expenses stemming from the tragic accident, the family of the deceased man has the option of filing a civil case against the Fayetteville woman. If the family can prove to the court that the women's negligence caused the man's death, they could be awarded with compensation for the accident-related expenses.
