I-95 accident in North Carolina kills 1, injures 1

An accident on a North Carolina highway left one person dead and another seriously injured on Aug. 7. The collision occurred around 2:15 p.m. on Interstate 95 near Benson.

Authorities with the North Carolina Highway Patrol say a 28-year-old man was driving a 2003 GMC SUV and attempted to merge into traffic on the outside lane on I-95. During the merge attempt, his vehicle hit a 2011 Hyundai driven by a 46-year-old woman. Upon impact, the driver of the GMC was unable to control his vehicle and ended up striking a median.

After striking the median, the GMC flipped over and finally came to rest in the southbound lanes of the highway. The GMC driver died at the accident scene, and his 49-year-old female passenger was taken via helicopter to an area hospital. The driver of the Hyundai and her passengers, including her husband and two children, did not suffer any injuries. The southbound lanes were closed for some time in order to clear the wreckage.

Victims of a crash could suffer catastrophic injuries, and they may face a long period of recovery. In that time, they may be unable to work, and medical bills like physical therapy costs may accumulate, causing financial hardships. Consulting with a personal injury attorney could be of benefit to a victim who wishes to file a claim for compensation for his or her crash-related losses. The damages an injured person could recover may include medical expenses, costs to repair their damaged car, lost income and pain suffering.
