Fatality in moped, car collision in North Carolina

| Mar 26, 2014 | Car Accidents |

As the cost of gas has risen over the last several years and people have become more aware of the state of the environment, many in North Carolina have sought economical ways to reduce their carbon footprint. For example, many people have turned to mopeds as an alternative form of transportation. Unfortunately for moped drivers, other motor vehicle operators can put their lives at risk. One man has recently been killed in a collision between a moped and a car.

The accident occurred at night on a day in late March. Reports indicate that a car driven by 34-year-old man attempted to make a left turn into the path of a man on a moped. As a result, the moped and car collided.

The driver of the moped, a 26-year-old man, died at the scene of the accident. It is unclear if the driver of the car was injured. Police have not filed charges as a result of the collision yet. However, the case is still under investigation and a final report will be given to the district attorney when the investigation is complete.

The loss of such a young life is always a tragedy. As a result, his family is likely in shock over the news of the collision. In addition to their grief, many families who have lost a loved one in such an unexpected manner find themselves in a precarious financial situation due to funeral expenses and loss of income. If they can prove that his death was caused by negligence on the part of the driver of the car, a North Carolina court could award them damages to cover the expenses and other financial hardships resulting from the man’s death allowed by state law. Such an action would allow the family to cope with their grief instead of stressing about their finances.
