North Carolina accident leaves 2 dead, 2 injured

A hit-and-run car accident that occurred in North Carolina on Nov. 1 left two people dead. The incident reportedly took place when the hit-and-run driver failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of New Bern Avenue and Trawick Road in Raleigh at approximately 12:30 a.m.

Authorities stated that a 28-year-old man, who was driving a 1998 Honda sedan, was trying to make a legal left-hand turn when the hit-and-run driver collided with him. The impact caused the deaths of two female passengers, who were identified as a 24-year-old Fuquay-Varina resident and an 18-year-old Wake Forest resident. Two other passengers, both male, suffered injuries that were described as not life threatening. The 28-year-old driver reportedly did not suffer any injuries in the collision.

The hit-and-run vehicle was described as a dark, possibly black, 2002-2006 Chevrolet Avalanche. The vehicle's front bumper, which was gray, was left at the scene of the crash. When the report was released, authorities were still investigating the incident and searching for the accused hit-and-run driver.

A driver may leave the scene of an accident that caused serious injuries or death for a number of reasons. For example, the driver may fear penalties, they may have been under the influence or had evidence of drug use in the vehicle. However, once the accused driver is identified, family members who lost a loved one in an accident caused by that person may file a wrongful death claim.

It is recommended that family members seek legal guidance from an attorney. Not only can the attorney assist with gathering the evidence against the accused hit-and-run driver, they may also be able to assist the plaintiffs by estimating the total losses that were suffered, such as funeral expenses, by the family.
