Tips for avoiding drunk driving car accidents

Drunk driving car accident statistics have been dropping over the last decade, but the danger still exists. As long as human beings are driving, there will be intoxicated and drunk individuals behind the wheels of automobiles. Even worse, we have to share the roadway with these people whether we like it or not. Unfortunately, these drunk drivers cause fatal and injurious car accidents every day of the week, so what can we do to avoid them?

The first thing that every driver can do to avoid getting into a serious drunk driving crash is to never drive after drinking any amount of alcohol. This might sound extreme, considering that the law allows you to drink a small amount of alcohol and still drive; however, it is very easy for things to get out of hand. Even when we plan to only drink one drink, it can quickly turn into two, three, four or five.

No matter how careful you are with your own alcohol consumption, though, we can't make others do the same. So it is important to drive defensively, attentively and avoid operating your vehicle between the hours of 12 p.m. and 3 p.m., when roadways tend to have the most intoxicated drivers on them. Also, if you see an intoxicated driver, give him or her plenty of space and call the police.

Remember: It is always preferable to stay safe and avoid an accident than to have to pursue personal injury damages in court. An ounce of prevention is worth a thousand pounds of cure in these cases, so please, from Britton Law, PA, do everything you can to keep yourself and your family safe when it comes to alcohol and driving.
