Woman killed in Southwest Airlines catastrophe

Many North Carolina residents likely heard about a plane incident in which a woman was killed. The incident, which happened on April 17, was caused by an engine that exploded when a Southwest Airlines flight was flying from La Guardia in New York to Dallas, Texas.

According to news reports, passengers on the plane heard a couple of loud explosions and a window was busted out. The debris from the engine had reportedly shattered the window. The woman who was seated in the seat next to the window was reportedly sucked partially out of the window, and other passengers struggled to pull her back inside of the plane.

The pilot managed to make an emergency landing in Philadelphia. The woman who was sucked partially outside of the plane was taken to the hospital in critical condition. She later died from her injuries. In addition to the woman, seven other passengers on the plane received minor injuries and were treated for them. It is currently unknown what caused the engine to fail.

The surviving family members of people who are killed in fatal accidents that result from the negligence of others may be able to recover damages by filing wrongful death civil lawsuits against the negligent parties. Experienced personal injury lawyers may help their clients to determine all of the responsible parties that should be named as defendants. This may help them to access more potential sources of recovery so that they might obtain fair compensation for their losses. In this case, the potentially liable parties might include Southwest Airlines, the manufacturer of the engine if it was defective and the parties who were responsible for its maintenance and repair. The investigation may help to determine the parties that might bear responsibility.
