7 motorcyclists die in truck crash

North Carolina residents may have heard that the driver of a truck hauling a trailer of cars that crashed into a group of motorcyclists in New Hampshire has been arrested in a case that may result in both criminal and civil proceedings. Seven people were killed and several others injured in the June 21, 2019 crash. The truck driver was arrested on June 24 and charged with seven counts of negligent homicide.

He was driving a 2016 Dodge 2500 truck, pulling an empty car trailer. The group of motorcyclists were members of a U.S. Marine motorcycle club, Marine Jarheads MC. The president of the club, who survived, said the truck and trailer took out nearly all of the motorcyclists behind him. He said the truck turned hard into the motorcycle group and the trailer whipped around behind it.

In unrelated incidents, the 23-year-old driver was arrested for drunk driving in 2013 and again on May 11, 2019. The trucking company he was driving for at the time of the crash has received various citations for violations since 2017, according to records kept by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. The company's drivers had twice been in possession of narcotics, and there were citations for a driver without a commercial license, defective brakes, and speeding.

An attorney may be able to help victims who have been injured in truck accidents as well as the surviving family members of those who lost their lives. If it can be determined that the cause of the accident was negligence on the part of the driver or trucking company, a settlement could be negotiated that provides compensation for the appropriate damages that have been incurred.
